Pantry staples I keep on hand are usually: -Salsa (I sometimes use with fish or chicken...it flavors it up easy) -Onions and garlic (flavors things up quite nicely as well) -Whole wheat pasta and sauce (a quickie meal) -Cream of Mushroom (I try to get the reduced kind. I love making quick crock pot recipes with it as it flavors chicken and vegetables well. Some ground beef and veggies, with some egg noodles would work nice too as a quick recipe). -Peanut butter: use it for snacks even on some bread or fruit -Diced or canned tomatoes: I like adding these to crock pot recipes too! Just an easy chicken and diced tomatoes with random veggies. -Canned beans (this works well with random chili days) -Cocoa powder: so great with oatmeal in the morning and some cinnamon -Oatmeal: always have this on hand for even a thickener for smoothies or 'breading' of some meats -Broth: chicken or beef. This is great for an impromptu rice pilaf, or a beef stew. It also can be used for great sauces -White/red wine: for cooking! I love using wine to spice up meals -Herbs: garlic powder, Italian seasoning [can mix well with bread crumbs for a simple coating as a breading for meats], pepper, red pepper flakes [adds subtle heat. goes well with greens like spinach/kale]
Natalie,
ReplyDeleteWhat pantry "staples" do you always keep on hand?
